The Breakaway Cable is an essential safety feature when using Trailer Brakes. Should the trailer and tow vehicle become disconnected, the Breakaway Cable or Breakaway Lanyard will pull the Emergency Brake Lever on the Trailer's Hydraulic Brake Actuator, causing the trailer to self-brake and not continue rolling out of control. If you notice your Trailer Breakaway Lever is frayed or kinked or damaged in any way, it's best to replace it.
