This boat trailer hydraulic surge actuator for disc brakes is the Dexter DX8.5, formerly known as the TDE Model 850 E. This surge coupler actuator is sized to fit a 2 inch trailer tow ball, and has a weight capacity of 8,500 lbs; perfect for single axle or tandem axle boat trailers, jet ski trailers, or other trailers with 5 lug 3,500 lb axles. It is a very common replacement specifically for tandem axle trailers with 3,500 lb axles, since the actuator's 8,500 lb weight rating matches very well with the axles' combined 7,000 lb capacity. The hydraulic master cylinder is constructed of corrosion resistant aluminum and features a pre-installed reverse lockout solenoid, so you can back your trailer up at the boat ramp without worrying about your brakes locking up. The body of the coupler actuator also features zerk fittings so you can lubricate the greaseable roller pins in the actuator, ensuring smooth and easy actuation to keep the flow of brake fluid and operation of your brake calipers working perfectly. The actuator is easy to install, just bolt it onto your 3 inch width trailer tongue with (2) 1/2 inch Diameter by 4 1/2 inch Long Stainless Steel Trailer Bolts through the pre-drilled mounting holes and it's ready to go! Though the actuator is manufactured by Dexter, it is compatible with trailer disc brakes from other manufacturer, such as DeeMaxx, UFP, Kodiak, Knott, and others! The Surge Action comes from the force created when you apply the brakes on your tow vehicle. The trailer surges forward, the actuator compresses, a damper applies pressure to the master cylinder, which forces hydraulic fluid into your brake lines, causing the Disc Brake Calipers to apply the brake pads against the rotors, to slow your trailer.

This DX 8.5 model actuator features Dexter's Drop-N-Go coupler latch system, just lower the actuator's coupler cup right onto your trailer ball and it will latch securely into place, with a removeable stainless steel safety pin for extra security. The surge coupler also features a corrosion resistant coiled PVC wrapped breakaway cable (a safety feature designed to be used as an emergency surge brake stop in the event your trailer becomes un attached from your vehicle), ensuring that you can safely and securely tow your boat trailer without worrying about a rusty or fraying breakaway system.
